I read an article that increased my self-awareness about how important self-care is to parents living and supporting their children with special needs.
The author claimed to be a clinical expert, and pointed out some of the obvious problems that arise from not getting needed breaks from what I call advanced parenting. Included were feelings of intense emotional burnout, anxiety, and feeling fatigued. The article writer claimed that these conditions left unchecked can lead to dealing with long-term health problems such as cardiac disease, diabetes and even broken partnerships. Yikes!
It did not take much for me to time travel back into my past to recall the health challenges I faced when I placed my self-care last in relation to the needs of my special needs children and the family structure. During this time, I became irritable at the drop of hat, and constantly felt powerless over my life. I recall feeling at a low bottom physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually which motivated me to seek guidance.
Now, through organizing my schedule to have timeWhy Self-Care Is Essential to Parenting away, and setting goals to live in a balanced way, I have made my self-care practice very practical. If I can overcome, so can you. Reach out to me to find out how!
